Monday, July 9, 2012; 12 Noon
Fayette County Commission President Matthew Wender, Commissioner Denise Scalph, Commissioner John Lopez, Senator William Laird, Major Tom Mills, Sheriff Steve Kesser, Prosecuting Attorney Carl Harris, Emergency Services Director Theresa White and Deputy Director Steve Cruikshanks, along with Fayette County Department of Health, SALS and Red Cross have been meeting daily assessing the needs for the citizens here in Fayette County. Every effort has been taken to quickly bring help to all areas of the county.
Hot Meals:
WV National Guard has set up Feeding sites serving hot meals at the following:
Note: On Friday 1087 Meals were served at these locations
Breakfast: 7:00 – 10:00 a.m. / Dinner: 5:00 – 8:00 p.m.
- Ansted Baptist Church
- Gauley Bridge Fire Department
- Glen Jean Armory
- Armstrong Creek Fire Department
- Loop Creek Fire Department, Next to Woods Store (1 Hour Delay from above times)
(These sites will serve up to 125 – 175 persons per site. Bottled Water available at these sites.)
The Southern Baptist and Red Cross are providing meals at:
Lunch around noon / Dinner around 5 PM
- Mt Lookout Fire Department
- Sunday Road Baptist Church
- Meadow Bridge at Good News Outreach
- Danese Fire Department
(Bottled water is available at these sites)
WATER - All PSD’s are up and running plus all booster stations are now operating. If your water goes off be patient and allow lines to fill. Please be conservative in your use of water.
Currently the main priority is getting bottled drinking water to as many people as possible.

Power Restoration - At this time 30% of Fayette County residents still remain without electric service. AEP indicates there are three areas where there is a concentration of customers without electric service and the power outage will be longer term before fully recovered: Layland; Danese; and Gauley bridge.
For those who have service please purchase food in limited quantities at there will be the possibility of interrupted service for the foreseeable future.
WV National Guard currently has 100+ troops providing emergency service in Fayette County. Please express your appreciation, like many of us many of them left families without power.

Scam Artists---We are asking everyone to be aware of scam artists that prey on disaster victims during their time of need who offer professional services. Confirm that they have a valid WV contractor’s license.

Burning Burn
The Governor’s Officer has issued a Burning Ban until further notice.
The Sheriff Deputies will issue citations. The concern is low water availability to fight any fires as well as breathing issues in hot weather. We ask for your patience and consideration.
Boil Water Advisory
The State of West Virginia is on a boil water advisory. It is up to the individual water companies and public service districts to announce that local boil water advisories are lifted.
Health & Welfare
The WV National Guard and Local red Cross along with Fayette county Sheriff Deputies have health and wellness assessment teams on the ground going door to door checking on those affected by the storms, however we ask that everyone check on loved ones and neighbors.
The Fayette County Office of Emergency Services (OES) is asking all US Postal Carriers and Rural Route Carriers to report to OES any residents that are not picking up their mail. We also ask that all residents report any lack of activity at neighbor’s homes. Please report your observations to the OES at 304-574-3590. The OES will dispatch health and welfare worker to confirm the well being of these residents.
FEMA ----West Virginia has not been declared eligible for individual cost reimbursement. That declaration will depend on the extent of damage in West Virginia. The declaration, if issued, will be on a county by county basis.

For municipalities, please fax or email to the OES Center your costs related to storm recovery. These costs should include employee time, hours of volunteer time, travel and vehicle expenses, equipment rentals, fuel purchases for generators, etc.
